In 2016's first month, the German automaker Volkswagen delivered 847,000 vehicles worldwide, beating number one Toyota, which came in at 801,614 for the same period.
The top three automakers closed out 2015 on a slide. However, in January VW delivered a 3.7% more vehicles than in December of 2015. It appears, at least globally, the market has been unaffected by the German carmaker's emission scandal.
Further, the Chinese market, seen as a liability for Volkswagen through most of last year, suddenly turned into a growth engine in January. Volkswagen's January deliveries there were up nearly 14%, and China consumed close to half of VW's global production in the same month.
However, only time will tell if this recent winfall continues, and expect analysts to publish new sales data sometime next month.
